The title reflects a popular Sudanese saying which means a person who tries to sleep standing, hence falls into a state of slumber and wakefulness.
The film is an ode to all refugees in the world who search for a sense of identity and belonging. Through multiple diverse and complex characters from Sudan, an intricate mosaic of their lives unfolds, painting a vivid reality of what it is like to be a refugee. The film follows four main characters who reveal their complex lives and the lives of their friends and family. The four navigate a state of slumber and anxiety in living as shadows while holding on to their Sudanese culture and identity.
