First held in 1972, the famous International Film Festival Rotterdam is an annual film festival that takes place in several cinemas in Rotterdam, Netherlands in January. The festival is well-known for its focus on recent work by talented new filmmakers shedding light on independent and experimental filmmaking and presenting cutting edge media art and artist's film. The festival’s sections vary between Bright Future, Voices, Deep Focus, and Perspectives. Also the festival hosts an international co-production market called CineMart which aims at giving filmmakers the chance to launch their ideas to the international film industry.
