Founded in 2010, Underwire is UK’s largest film festival that is devoted to highlighting female filmmakers and films. For the past years, the festival has been awarding training and mentoring opportunities to filmmakers, screening over 800 films and has grown now to be BAFTA recognized film festival. Accepting a wide array of genres, including drama, animation, documentary, music video and artist film, the festival hands its awards in acknowledgement of the outstanding achievements. These awards include Best Director, Best Producer, Best Writer, Best Editor, Best Cinematographer, Best Composer, Best Sound Designer, Best Actor, Best Production Designer and Best Animator, as well as Under 25, for outstanding work by a female practitioner aged 15-25, and XX Award, for the best onscreen female protagonist.
