AMR SALAMA
DIRECTOR & WRITER
EGYPT
Having made his name with the hit EXCUSE MY FRENCH, and the award-winning doc TAHRIR, Amr courted
controversy with his drama SHEIKH JACKSON. World premiering at TIFF 2017 and named as Egypt’s Oscar
submission for the foreign-language film, it tells a story of an Islamic cleric who likes to dress as
Michael Jackson whose life is thrown into a tailspin in the wake of the famous singer’s death. The film
was a success in Egypt despite attacks by conservatives outraged by a scene of a group dance inside a
mosque. Amr has more than 3 million followers on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
