
Founded in 2005 by Mohamed Hefzy — recipient of France’s Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters, member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and former president of the Cairo International Film Festival (2018–2021) — Film Clinic supports emerging creative talents with the expertise of leading industry professionals. In 2017, Hefzy launched Film Clinic Indie Distribution, the distribution arm of Film Clinic. Dedicated to supporting and distributing the work of the most exciting and forthcoming Arab filmmakers, as well as handling sales for Film Clinic’s own productions. In 2020, FCID’s lineup included the Oscar submissions from five Arab countries. With a track record of over 70 titles, ranging from commercial blockbusters to award-winning arthouse films and Genre TV series, Film Clinic has given a voice to filmmakers both locally and internationally
Egyptian films: Film Clinic’s 2025 standout Egyptian titles include Marwan Hamed’s EL SETT, which premiered in Marrakech to a 10-minute standing ovation before releasing commercially; Abu Bakr Shawky’s THE STORIES, winner of the Golden Tanit at Carthage after its world premiere in Tallinn; Mohamed Siam’s MY FATHER’S SCENT, a family drama that earned multiple international awards and four Best Actor prizes for Ahmed Malek; and Walid El Halafawy’s DARWISH, a period dramedy starring Amr Youssef that achieved box-office success.
Saudi Standouts: Over the past year, Film Clinic produced and co-produced Saudi titles, including Shahad Ameen’s HIJRA — the first Saudi film to win the NETPAC Award for Best Asian Film at the Venice International Film Festival and Saudi Arabia’s official submission for Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards — and Anas Ba-Tahaf’s romantic comedy A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH, which world premiered at the Red Sea Film Festival and is set for release in Saudi and Arab cinemas.
COTTON QUEEN: A Film Clinic co-production, Suzannah Mirghani’s feature drama, premiered at Venice Critics’ Week and went on to win the Golden Alexander “Theo Angelopoulos” Award for Best Feature Film at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival; the Audience Award at the Doha Film Festival; and the Grand Prix de Genève at FIFDH Genève, among others.
ROQIA: With Film Clinic Indie Distribution handling its release across the MENA region, this horror feature by Algerian director Yanis Koussim world-premiered at Venice and continued its journey through key festivals, including the Red Sea and Thessaloniki.
