Leyla Bouzid’s work explores youth, identity, and the tensions between personal freedom and societal constraint. A graduate of La Fémis in Paris, she first gained international attention with her debut feature, AS I OPEN MY EYES, which premiered at Venice and went on to screen at major festivals including Toronto, earning widespread acclaim and over 20 international awards. She followed that up with A TALE OF LOVE AND DESIRE, which closed Cannes’ Critics’ Week and further established her as a distinctive voice in contemporary Arab cinema, blending coming-of-age storytelling with a nuanced exploration of desire and cultural identity

Behind the Scenes at CIFF: Aside from being a part of an in-conversation on acting in and directing intense scenes at the CIFF, Bouzid was also a part of the festival’s International Competition Jury.
