
The SFC is a governmental body established in 2020 to develop the film sector and the film production ecosystem in Saudi Arabia, and to empower Saudi filmmakers across the entire value chain. Film Saudi is the commission\'s funding arm, offering incentives to enable projects and connect filmmakers with the right talent, local service providers, crews, facilities, and other partners. Its incentive program is one of the film commission\'s strategic initiatives to develop the kingdom\'s film industry.
Historic Box Office Performance: In March 2026, the SFC released its 2025 Box Office Report, showing total revenues reached $245m with 18.8m tickets sold.
Saudi Content Dominance: For the first time, three local productions ranked among the top 10 highest-grossing titles of the year.
Incentive Success: The Film Saudi incentive program, offering up to 40% cash rebates, supported 14 major projects in 2025 with production spending exceeding $24.7m.
AFCI Membership: In March 2026, the SFC officially joined the Association of Film Commissioners International, a move aiming to position the kingdom as a premier global filming destination and to integrate it further into the international film community.
First Annual Report: In October 2025, the SFC published its inaugural annual report, detailing the expansion of cinema infrastructure to 630 screens across 64 locations.
Saudi Film Confex: The 2025 edition drew 70,000 visitors and resulted in 24 agreements valued at $60.2m.
Oscar Representation: HIJRA by Shahad Ameen and supported by the Daw fund, was selected by the commission as Saudi Arabia’s official entry for the 2026 Oscars.
