CAREER HIGHLIGHT(S):
The son of Palestinian producer Riyad El Aryan, who famously produced
many of Ahmed Zaki’s films, Tarek grew up immersed in the film industry. He later honed his craft studying
filmmaking in the US at Southern Illinois University. After starting out as an executive producer at his
father's studios in Athens from 1986 to 1993, Tarek went on to manage and produce across film, TV, and
music. Although selective in his filmography, his work has been consistently well-received. He launched his
directing career with two action hits starring Ahmed Zaki: Brian De Palma’s SCARFACE-inspired THE
EMPEROR, which won Achievement of the Year at the CIFF, and EL BASHA. After a nine-year break, he
shifted gears into romance with SNAKES AND LADDERS, followed by a new benchmark in Egyptian action
cinema with TITO. Through his company RAW Productions, Tarek later created the blockbuster WELAD
RIZK franchise, which grossed over $9m across its first two films.
TWELVE-MONTH HIGHLIGHT(S):
Here Comes WELAD RIZK 3: The third installment shattered box office records, delivering the highest
opening week in Egyptian cinema history with around $2m and setting a new benchmark for the biggest
