CARTHAGE FILM FESTIVAL (JCC) | TUNISIA
CAREER HIGHLIGHT(S):
Founded in 1966, the JCC is technically the oldest film festival still active in the Arab World and Africa. What began as a biennial event in Tunis became an annual fixture in 2014. Despite being held in a city lacking exhibition infrastructure, the JCC can also claim to be the most popular audience festival in the Arab World, with fans lining up outside. In 2014, the JCC launched Carthage Pro as an industry division, which included the Takmil and Chabaka workshops to support projects in post-production and development. The JCC’s 2023 edition was cancelled by the Ministry of Culture after Israel's war on Gaza erupted in October 2023, and it returned in 2024 in a new slot in December.
