CAREER HIGHLIGHT(S):
From the left, the picture shows Adra, Yuval Abraham,
Ballal, and Rachel Szor on the stage of the Kino International after the screening of their
film, NO OTHER LAND, at the 74th Berlinale’s Panorama, where they collected their
first awards: Best Documentary and the Panorama Audience Award. Made by a rare
Palestinian-Israeli collective, the film shows the destruction of the occupied West
Bank's Masafer Yatta by Israeli soldiers and the alliance that develops between the
Palestinian activist Basel and Israeli journalist Yuval. Their film famously went on to win
the Oscar for best documentary feature film at this year’s Academy Awards!
TWELVE-MONTH HIGHLIGHT(S):
Storming 2024 Festivals: The film racked up over 70 awards, including prestigious ones such as IDFA, Palm Springs, CPH:DOX, and the Asia Pacific Screen Awards.
Box Office Success: Gearing up for the Oscar race, the film was released in North America through independent distribution, earning more than $2.4m — a rare achievement
for a foreign documentary without a major domestic distributor. The worldwide tally surpassed $3.4m.
Post-Oscars Assault: Three weeks after receiving the
Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in March 2025,
Ballal, the Palestinian co-director, was assaulted by a group of
settlers in his home village of Susiya, causing him injuries to his
head and stomach. In its first response, the Academy refused
to publish a statement in support of Ballal, prompting
Abraham, the Israeli co-director, to campaign against the
organization, which quickly apologized.
