AFLAMUNA | LEBANON
CAREER HIGHLIGHT(S):
AFLAMUNA is a cultural nonprofit based in Beirut working to harness the power of independent Arab
cinema to elevate the most pressing social, political, and artistic movements.
Established as a cooperative under the name of Beirut DC in 1999
by a group of Lebanese filmmakers and cultural organizers, it
became a nonprofit organization in 2006 under the same name,
launching multiple programs and initiatives that helped
independent cinema in the Arab World. For its past eight editions,
AFLAMUNA Connection has supported 145 Arab Independent
feature films by offering a comprehensive co-production platform
through which Arab filmmakers and producers connect with
international industry professionals. In its 2024 edition, the
platform facilitated over 300 meetings with more than 70 regional
and international industry experts for its selected films.
TWELVE-MONTH HIGHLIGHT(S):
The AFLAMUNA Impact Fund: In December 2024, Aflamuna selected eight projects for the second round of the fund, one
of which was the Sudanese film KHARTOUM, which premiered at the 74th Berlinale.
AFLAMUNA x Cinemed Encounters: With the support of the CNC — Centre National du Cinéma et de l’Image Animée, ten
feature fiction and documentary projects in development from Arab countries were selected for the initiative, which was held
in Montpellier, France, in October 2024.
