Berlinale Talents alumnus, Abdelsalam Moussa is a celebrated cinematographer known for blending painterly and comic book influences into a striking mix of realism and experimentation. Over the past 15 years, he’s shot more than 20 titles, earning both critical acclaim and commercial success. His standout credits include the TV hits MOGA HARRA, WEDDING SONG, and SUNSET OASIS, as well as the acclaimed indie films CHAOS, DISORDER; CACTUS FLOWER; and ABOUT HER. In 2020, he was named a ‘Rising Star of Cinematography’ by American Cinematographer Magazine.
TWELVE-MONTH HIGHLIGHT(S):
Winning Big: Moussa picked up a dozen international awards for his work on the low-budget American fantasy feature A WONDERFUL WAY WITH DRAGONS from international festivals across the globe.
Arab Films: His recent Arab projects include EAST OF NOON by Hala El Koussy, which screened at the 77th Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight; THE TALE OF DAYE’S FAMILY, which played at the Red Sea and Rotterdam film festivals; and Netflix’s original feature FROM THE ASHES, based on a real-life tragedy in Saudi Arabia.
GFF’s Art Behind the Scenes Award: The seventh GFF honored Moussa for his contributions to Egyptian cinema.
