Marrakech International Film Festival (FIFM) | Morocco
CAREER HIGHLIGHT(S):
Created in 2001, a few days after the 9/11 attacks, the Marrakech International Film Festival (FIFM) quickly developed from a festival highly influenced by European cinema, particularly by French films, into a full-fledged fest that showcases world cinema highlights and breeds local talent. In 2018, the festival launched the Atlas Workshops — an industry and talent development program whose mission is to support the new generation of Moroccan, Arab, and African filmmakers and to create a space for exchange between international professionals and regional talent.
TWELVE-MONTH HIGHLIGHT(S):
For the first time in the festival’s history, the Étoile d’Or — the FIFM’s grand prize — was awarded to a Moroccan film, THE MOTHER OF ALL LIES by Asmae El Moudir, in the 20th edition of the festival. The Jury Prize was awarded to HOUNDS by Kamal Lazraq and BYE BYE TIBERIUS by Lina Soualem. The 21st edition of the festival will run from November 29th to December 7th.
