The distinctive edge of the Amman International Film Festival - Awal Film is its focus on first-timers. This is the first international film festival of
this scale to focus entirely on first-time achievements in filmmaking. International juries select the Best Arab Feature-Length Narrative, Best Arab
Feature-Length Documentary, and Best Arab Short Film, while the audiences choose their favorite international début film. All winning films receive cash
awards for their categories.
TWELVE-MONTH HIGHLIGHT(S):
At the conclusion of the the fourth edition of Amman, the festival awarded Black Irises — its highest honors — to Adnane Baraka feature-documentary
FRAGMENTS FROM HEAVEN, Kawther Younes’ short film MY GIRLFRIEND, and Alex Sardà’s Spanish feature narrative HAFREIAT. The fifth edition of the festival
will run from July 3rd to the 10th.
