Misr International Films (MIF) was founded in 1972 by the late world-renowned Egyptian filmmaker Youssef Chahine. MIF has produced and distributed over 50 films, most of which have won awards internationally. As a fully integrated film company, MIF has two distribution arms: MIF Distribution, which distributes Egyptian and foreign films in Egypt, and Zawya Distribution, which distributes around 30 arthouse films and accounts annually to local theaters and distributors. MIF also launched Orient Films to distribute Egyptian films in the GCC, mostly those the company produced or co-produced with other partners.
MIF theatrically distributes AFD films from major studios such as Disney and Columbia, as well as independent foreign titles. Films distributed by AFD account for roughly 40% of the foreign film box office in Egypt.
