Orwa is the first Arab to spearhead the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam, one of the world’s pre-eminent showcases for non-fiction and an essential breeding ground for new international doc projects. The festival will celebrate its 35th edition in 2022. In an interview with Variety last November Orwa says of documentary filmmakers: “I prefer to spend my life with this bunch. These people are beautiful, they are kind, accessible and down to earth,” adding that they make him think of Johnny Cash.
