THE DIRECTORS
Mohamed Diab
Director and Writer
Egypt
Mohamed’s third feature film, the sperm-smuggling drama AMIRA, premiered at the Venice Film Festival last year, enjoying a great early reception. In early December, however, Jordan succumbed to pressure from Palestinian groups to rescind the film as its official Oscar submission after criticism in some local quarters for its depiction of Palestinian prisoners – the kind of local backlash that Diab was familiar with after his acclaimed Cannes film CLASH. Diab made history last year by becoming the first Arab filmmaker to direct a big budget Marvel TV series, helming four of the six episodes of the MOON KNIGHT mini-series, on which he also serves as a producer.
