Marianne is one of the cornerstones of the Egyptian film industry having produced and directed numerous works since she started working with her uncle, the late director Youssef Chahine. Her son Youssef founded Zawya arthouse cinema in Cairo that has created a new space for specialized films, made all the more vital following the closure of the twin-screen Karim Cinema in downtown Cairo.
