Riyadh-based CineWaves, one of the first Saudi companies to move into arthouse films and the distribution home for the majority of the handful of Saudi films that have been made in the last few years, bolstered its future supply lines in December though a cooperation pact with Egypt’s Film Clinic Indie Distribution. Under the deal, CineWaves will handle the Saudi release of Film Clinic Indie Distribution titles, starting with Egypt’s 2022 Oscar submission SOUAD, Lebanon’s submission COSTA BRAVA, LEBANON, and Egyptian 2021 Cannes Critics’ Week winner FEATHERS. There are plans for the two companies to cooperate in other ways in the future. In the meantime, Faisal is working to establish stronger theatrical release for Saudi arthouse films in their home market.
