Despite the modest sizes of its grants, this Beirut fund has had a measurable impact on Arab cultural life. More than one thousand projects across the entire artistic spectrum have benefited, helping filmmakers. In June, AFAC teamed up with Netflix toannounce a $500,000 “hardship fund” to help those operating in the region’s film and TV community that were most impacted by the pandemic. Individual $2,000 grants are being offered to below-the-line crew, craftspeople and freelancers who have faced economic hardship resulting from the disruption of normal life, halts in productions, and reduced opportunities.
