Head of Narrative Film and Television, Image
Nation
UAE
The state-funded Emirati studio is transitioning from being a passive co-financier of
international film slates to focus on both television productions and supporting regional
filmmaking from the Arab-speaking world with a firm eye on building a local, sustainable
production base. One of the leading vehicles now for Arab-language production investment is a
three-way partnership in which Image Nation is joined by Vox Cinemas and MBC Studios. Together
they have backed a number of genre-driven films including the region’s first vampire horror,
Bloodline and HWJN, an adaptation of the bestselling Saudi novel by Arabic sci-fi pioneer
Ibraheem Abbas. When Image Nation does invest in Hollywood films, as it did with Men In Black 3,
the intention is to make a profit that can then be ploughed back into subsidizing its local
Arab-language activities.
