SOUDADE KAADAN
DIRECTOR
SYRIA
Soudade made history in 2018 when her narrative
debut, THE DAY I LOST MY SHADOW, was
chosen as the first Syrian film ever to screen in
competition at the Venice Film Festival. There the
film claimed the Lion Of The Future Award. If that
wasn’t recognition enough, her 13-minute dark
Syrian refugee comedy AZIZA played at the Sundance
Film Festival a few months later in January
this year and scooped the Grand Jury Prize ahead
of 73 other shorts. Soudade is already working on
a new feature inspired by the main character of
AZIZA.
