HAJOOJ KUKA
DIRECTOR
SUDAN
After directing several documentaries, Hajooj
made narrative feature debut with AKASHA, a
comedic film about a Sudanese soldier caught between
his love for his girlfriend and his AK47. While
the film didn’t have great feedback in the Arab
world, it got a great welcome from the international
festivals starting with Venice and Toronto last
year. An active member of GIRIFNA, a non-violent
resistance movement in Sudan, and the founder
of Refugee Club, Hajooj was previously listed
in Foreign Policy Magazine as one of the Leading
Global Thinkers (Chroniclers category).
