The best-known Saudi filmmaker, Haifaa is among the very few Arab filmmakers to be in the directorial reins of a prestige English-language feature. Her period drama MARY SHELLEY may not have been warmly embraced by critics but this hasn’t stopped her follow-up American romantic comedy (NAPPILY EVER AFTER) from being bought by Netflix. And her new film, THE PERFECT CANDIDATE, has just started shooting in Saudi Arabia, making it a perfect candidate for the new cinema circuits being built there. This comedic drama is the first film supported by the Saudi Film Council.
