A billionaire businessman and a scion of Egypt’s wealthiest
family, Naguib also happens to be passionate about
cinema. His ambitious new film festival in the high-end El
Gouna Red Sea resort, which he launched in 2017, under
the supervision of Al Tamimi, has helped fill the funding
vacuum caused by the abrupt disappearance of Dubai as
a festival supporting mechanism. This year, the festival’s
CineGouna Platform more than doubled its prizes, granting
the winners a total of $175,000. Artistic Director Amir is
a filmmaker in his own right and also manages the film program
of new Tahrir Culture Center (the previous location of
The American University and still managed by it).
