In March, Prince Badr unveiled a document called “Our Culture, Our
Identity” that outlined various initiatives to kickstart the local arts sector
to complement’s the kingdom’s huge push into the entertainment
sector. Among them Among them was the establishment of the Saudi
Film Council, headed by Baltyuour, and the Red Sea International Film
Festival, based in the historic district of Jeddah, and presided over by
Saudi filmmaker Mahmoud Sabbagh (BARAKAH MEETS BARAKAH).
Plans include a year-round incubator/film lab called the Red Sea Lodge,
a film fund and a co-production scheme.
