ELIA SULEIMAN
DIRECTOR
PALESTINE
Best known for the 2002 film DIVINE INTERVENTION,
a tragicomedy on living under occupation
in Palestine that won the Jury Prize in Cannes
that year, Elia is back once again in competition
at Cannes this year with his fourth film, IT MUST
BE HEAVEN, that was made with European and
Canadian support. Described as “a burlesque
saga exploring identity, nationality and belonging”,
the comedy stars Elia himself as he travels to
different cities including New York, Paris and Doha
only to find unexpected parallels to his Palestinian
homeland.
