After all, NEOM, from its very name to the ambitious scale of its futuristic vision as a semi-autonomous, green-powered tech-driven free zone is all about what’s next. Still being built across a Red Sea enclave the size of Belgium, NEOM has already hosted its first production, MBC Studios’ $100 million 7th Century action epic DESERT WARRIOR starring Anthony Mackie that spent at least five months with 400-500 people on set daily. Also set to shoot is Saudi independent Bedouin folk legend WITHIN SAND. Borg, who helped create a media hub Abu Dhabi’s twofour54 media hub, has already opened two soundstages at NEOM as part of a longer-term plan to have three or four. Given the strictures facing international media companies doing business in KSA, they may be inclined to set up shop here in this mega-city policed by its own, more liberal, laws. Close proximity to both Egypt and Jordan also helps.
